Hematology outpatient clinic receives adult patients for diagnosis and treatment of hematology disorders, example chemotherapy, treatment with antibodies, immunoglobulin and supportive care in form of blood transfusion, antibiotics etc. The treatments may have curative as well as palliative sieve.
The hematology diseases covers cancers such as : multiple myeloma, chronic leukemia and malignant lymphoma. More rare hematology disorders as thrombocytopenia, myelodysplastic syndrome, polycythemia vera, and immune defects.
Patients come at intervals to treatments and/or a check. Hematology patients are often marked by a long and complex disease process, that affects their everyday life.
The nursing is short time nursing and we provide all of our patients with contact nurses. In hematology clinic we have a positive and engaged staff group consisting of: Nurses, specialist doctors and secretaries. We have a close collaboration with other professionels such as : laboratory staff, pharmacists, patologists, physioterapists, porters, dietitians, priests, psychologists etc. We also have a close working relationship with Hematology in patients ward A 110.
Learning opportunities
In hematology Outpatient Clinic we have a learning enviroment that invites the student to become a part of the practice and participate in tasks/ treatments. The student follow a nurse and watch ex:
Bone marrow biopsy, transfusions, venesection, antibodies, kemo and immunoglobulin treatment , receive new patients, injections, how to put an iv, attend conversations with patients.
We also bring the student professional knowledge about the hematology specialty.
We offer introduction to Sygehus Lillebælts values; ROSE, EXELLENT NURSING, which is all about putting the patient first.
We practice/ offer nurse discussions about ethics, communication, palliative treatments amongst other.
We have Danish students in our clinic who can offer student support.
The clinical supervisor offer guidance throughout the students stay.
