Possible Combinations

This module can be combined with the theoretical module in Interncultural compentece (M3) and a traineeship in Social Work (max. 10 ECTS) to give a total of 30 ECTS.

Target Group

Students of Education – Teacher Education, English as a second language or related disciplines

Purpose

The students will achieve knowledge of:

  • how to plan, carry out, evaluate, and develop teaching by use of functional and communicative approaches to language teaching
  • develop didactic designs for different age groups in Danish state schools
  • theories about language learning, foreign language acquisition and communicative competences
  • how to apply differentiated and motivational teaching strategies to didactic designs for various class levels and pupils
  • how to work with learning goals and assessment in Danish state schools.

Proof of English proficiency

All applicants for this offer must show proof of English language proficiency corresponding to a minimum of B2 on the CEFR scale. This can be done by submitting one of the accepted language certificates through the application form.

The accepted certificates and minimum requirements are:

  • IELTS: Minimum score: 6.5
  • TOEFL internet-based test: Minimum score: 83
  • Cambridge ESOL examinations: Advanced/CAE or Proficiency/CPE - Grade: C, B or A
  • Cambridge ESOL examinations First Certificate: Grade: A
  • Oxford Online Placement test: Minimum score: 75 overall + 75 in each subtest

The submitted certificates must not be older than 3 years to be considered valid.
If the applicant does not upload an English test, they will automatically be invited to complete an online test issued by UCL. Applicants may also be invited for an online interview upon our request.

Teaching Methods

All teaching and counselling is in oral and written English. You will experience several different teaching methods such as lectures, presentations, dialogue, exchange of experiences, group work, independent studies, as well as portfolio work.

  • give and receive peer-feedback

Tuition Fee

Workload

100 instructional (face-to-face) lessons or counselling, as well as preparations for each class, group work and assignment completion.

Learning outcome

  • Plan, carry out, evaluate, and develop teaching by use of functional and communicative approaches to language teaching
  • Develop didactic designs for different age groups in Danish state schools
  • Theories about language learning, foreign language acquisition and communicative competences
  • Apply differentiated and motivational teaching strategies to didactic designs for various class levels and pupils
  • Work with learning goals and assessment in Danish state schools

The examination is the presentation of a portfolio.

The student will be awarded a grade of pass or fail.
